Visceral Manipulation
What is Visceral Manipulation?
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle form of body work that releases tissue surrounding the internal organs. At optimal health, the relationship between the organs and the muscles, bones, fascia remains stable. When one organ cannot move in sync with its surrounding tissue it causes disharmony. When there are abnormal points of tension the body is forced to move around them. Chronic tension can lead to disease and dysfunction.
Visceral manipulation employs specifically placed manual forces to encourage normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissue. Structural integration of the entire body is essential for health and balance.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of sessions required can vary widely because response varies from individual to individual. Response rates are influenced by age, general health, lifestyle and severity of underlying problems. The number of treatments you will need is best determined after a thorough history and evaluation.
What can I expect from a session?
Upon your initial evaluation you will fill out a health history form. You will review your past and present medical history with your therapist. Your specific needs and goals will be noted. You will remain fully clothed. The therapist will apply gentle forces to abdomen and thorax to encourage normal mobility of the viscera and their connective tissues. A session will last 45 minutes. Comfortable loose fitting clothes should be worn.
Are there any side effects?
There are no side effects of visceral manipulation. On a rare occasion you may be a little sore. It may take 48 hours for your body to adjust to the changes. It is wise to be nice to yourself, eat light, omit heavy exercise, and drink plenty of water for 48 hours after a session.
